دمرت حرائق غابات 86 منزلا على الأقل ومعظم بلدة كاربون الصغيرة في ولاية تكساس الأميركية، حسبما ذكرت صحيفة “دالاس مورنينغ نيوز” المحلية .
وتسببت 4 حرائق غربي دالاس في حرق 54 ألف فدان، وقتل نائبة قائد الشرطة التي كانت تساعد الناس على الفرار.
وقالت هيئة الإطفاء في تكساس يوم السبت إن الحرائق الأربعة محتدمة منذ الأربعاء أو الخميس في مقاطعة إيستلاند، التي تبعد نحو 190 كيلومترا غربي دالاس، وتم احتواؤها بنسبة 30 بالمئة تقريبا.
وذكرت الصحيفة أن نحو 85 بالمئة من بلدة كاربون التي يبلغ عدد سكانها 225 نسمة احترق، ونشرت صورا لمنازل تحولت إلى ركام وأنقاض.
وقال مكتب حاكم تكساس غريغ أبوت يوم الجمعة، إنه قرر اعتبار 11 مقاطعة في تكساس مناطق كوارث، وأمر بتنكيس الأعلام في مقاطعة إيستلاند تكريما لنائبة قائد الشرطة باربرا فينلي.
وأفاد جيسون فيغر قائد شرطة إيستلاند بأن فينلي توجهت بالسيارة يوم الخميس للاطمئنان على شخص مسن كجزء من واجباتها الرسمية.
وأضاف فيغر: “مع تدهور الأوضاع بشكل كبير وضعف الرؤية بسبب الدخان انحرفت سيارة فينلي عن الطريق وغمرتها النيران”، حسبما نقلت “رويترز”.
